A widespread recall of Deep brand frozen foods has been significantly expanded due to Salmonella contamination. This recall, initiated on July 16, was amplified on September 9 and officially classified as a Class I recall by the FDA on December 11. This is the most severe classification, signifying a high probability of serious adverse health consequences.
The recall expansion follows a Salmonella outbreak investigation that concluded in September. This outbreak, which spanned 11 states, sickened 12 individuals and resulted in four hospitalizations. While no deaths were reported, Salmonella remains a leading cause of foodborne illness in the U.S., leading to over one million infections annually.
Products were distributed nationwide, including popular retail outlets. Health officials strongly advise consumers to check their freezers for recalled items and to discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase. The freezing process does not kill Salmonella bacteria.
