- Kawasaki disease diagnosis led to lifelong medication.
- Parents urge awareness of rare illness symptoms.

A heartbroken family is paying tribute to their "daredevil" toddler, Hudson Martin, who tragically died suddenly at home in Bristol on January 8, 2026. Hudson, who was weeks away from his third birthday, had been diagnosed with Kawasaki disease at just seven months old after developing flu-like symptoms. This rare illness caused inflammation in his blood vessels, necessitating lifelong medication to reduce the risk of clots.
Despite his diagnosis, Hudson lived a vibrant and active life. His parents describe him as adventurous, always climbing, dancing, and full of personality. Although he bruised easily and suffered occasional nosebleeds due to his medication, he was otherwise a happy, growing boy. His parents had learned CPR and to monitor his health at home. Tragically, while playing downstairs, Hudson collapsed and, despite extensive efforts by emergency services, his heart could not be restarted.
Hudson's parents are determined to raise awareness of Kawasaki disease, noting that even medical professionals sometimes miss the warning signs. They stress the importance of parents trusting their instincts and pushing for further checks if they believe something is not right. A GoFundMe page has been established to help cover funeral costs and support charities dedicated to Kawasaki disease, with over £9,000 raised so far.
