11 Jun
Summary
- Six palliative care beds are being reinstated at Danetre Hospital.
- Beds were temporarily reassigned due to consultant cover shortfall.
- MP was assured services would be restored and community care strengthened.

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) has announced the reinstatement of palliative care beds at Danetre Hospital in Daventry. These six beds had been temporarily removed from end-of-life care services in May due to an unexpected shortfall in consultant cover, with the beds being reassigned for rehabilitation patients.
The trust is now actively working to restore the palliative care service, although a specific timeframe for the beds' availability has not yet been provided. NHFT has apologized for any concerns caused by the temporary change and expressed gratitude for the community's understanding.
Daventry MP Stuart Andrew met with NHFT's chief medical officer and received assurances that an interim consultant has been appointed. The MP was informed that the trust's strategy involves strengthening community-based care at Danetre Hospital, which aims to alleviate pressure on acute hospitals and enhance local healthcare provision.
One former patient's partner shared a positive experience, highlighting the exceptional care provided at the ward earlier this year. She emphasized the importance of local facilities, noting that visiting her partner, who had terminal cancer, would have been significantly more difficult if he had been treated in Northampton.
