Dame Esther Rantzen Plans Early Christmas Amid Cancer Update

Dame Esther Rantzen has revealed she is celebrating Christmas early this year, expressing a desire to spend more time with her family given her ongoing health struggles. The journalist, diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in 2023, recently shared she is also battling a second, distinct form of cancer for which she underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Her doctors have advised against further treatment, noting that the side effects have become more detrimental than beneficial. While acknowledging that her cancers are progressing, Rantzen stated the advancement is very slow, allowing her to cherish moments with her five grandchildren and children during the early Christmas celebrations.

Rantzen has also been a vocal advocate for assisted dying legislation. She has expressed her intention to travel to Dignitas in Switzerland for an assisted death if her condition becomes unbearable, appealing to the House of Lords to pass the bill.
