Beef Daily: No Diabetes Risk Found
23 May
Summary
- Daily beef consumption did not increase Type 2 diabetes risk factors.
- Study involved 24 prediabetic adults over 28 days.
- Beef was found to be nutritionally comparable to poultry.

Recent research from Indiana University indicates that daily consumption of beef, up to 6-7 ounces, does not adversely affect cardiometabolic health risk factors in individuals at risk for Type 2 diabetes. The gold standard randomized controlled trial, involving 24 prediabetic adults aged 18-74, measured hormonal levels and pancreatic beta cell function.
Participants consumed meals containing either beef or poultry for 28 days, followed by a break and a repeat of the dietary pattern. The study found no significant differences in beta cell function or insulin sensitivity between the two dietary groups. These findings suggest that beef can be incorporated into a healthy dietary pattern without detriment to blood sugar regulation or inflammation.
Researchers noted that beef helps meet essential nutritional needs and its impact on cardiometabolic risk profiles is comparable to poultry. The research was funded by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, although they did not influence the study's design or findings.
