Grieving Daughter Slams "Shameful" Mental Health Care
27 Jan
Summary
- Family awarded six-figure compensation after a five-and-a-half year legal battle.
- Dad battled psychosis for ten months before dying by suicide.
- Daughter alleges medics dismissed concerns because her father "presented well".

Emma Kenny is speaking out after her father, Don Taylor, died by suicide following a ten-month battle with psychosis. She believes he would still be alive if he had received adequate care from NHS mental health services. After a prolonged five-and-a-half-year legal fight, the family received a six-figure compensation payout last October.
Don's ordeal began in 2017, escalating in October 2018 with an attempted escape from home. Hospitalized for kidney failure and sepsis, he developed delirium and subsequently psychosis. Despite hallucinations, he was discharged without psychiatric medication. Although initially prescribed Olanzapine with positive results, a junior doctor later withdrew it prematurely.
Emma, a psychologist herself, asserts that medical professionals repeatedly ignored the family's concerns, dismissing them because Don "presented well." The family's pleas for help were reportedly overlooked, contributing to his tragic death at age 78 in July 2019. The Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust settled the case without admitting liability, stating they are committed to providing high-quality care.
