A recent voyage of the Seven Seas Mariner, a luxury cruise ship, was marred by a gastrointestinal illness outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that more than 25 individuals, comprising 21 guests and six crew members, fell ill during the sailing. The primary symptom reported by those affected was diarrhea.
The affected voyage took place from January 11 through February 1. The ship was en route from Miami to Honolulu, making scheduled stops in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Mexico. This incident marks the first cruise outbreak of gastrointestinal illness to meet the CDC's threshold for public notification in 2026. In response, the cruise line implemented enhanced cleaning protocols and isolated sick individuals.
