While CDC wastewater data shows low national activity, several states, particularly in the South and West, report high or very high levels. Health officials are preparing for potential increases as the respiratory viral season starts in October. Updated COVID-19 vaccines are available for eligible individuals, including those 65 and older and those with high-risk health conditions, with recommendations now based on shared clinical decision-making with healthcare providers.

Symptoms of current COVID-19 strains are generally similar to past infections, including fever, cough, and fatigue. However, some variants, like BA.3.2, have been associated with unique symptoms such as severe sore throat or gastrointestinal issues.
