Newlyweds Plan Baby After Terminal Cancer Diagnosis

Newlyweds Vicky and Tom Chapman's post-honeymoon plans were shattered when Tom was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor, given a five-year life expectancy. The former professional rugby player experienced a seizure shortly after their return from a trip to Sri Lanka and the Maldives in March 2025. Following extensive tests and surgery, the couple received the devastating news, but decided to proceed with their dream of starting a family.

Despite the grim prognosis, the couple is actively pursuing IVF to conceive. They have also embraced their new reality by becoming ambassadors for Brain Tumour Research, channeling their energy into fundraising and raising awareness. Tom is undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy, while also participating in a clinical trial.

Tom, who boasts over 150 National League appearances in rugby, and his wife, an England rugby international, maintain a positive outlook. They are focused on making memories and supporting research, having already raised over £55,000. Their journey underscores the urgent need for increased funding for brain cancer research, which receives only about 1% of UK cancer research funding.
