A corneal transplant has dramatically restored the sight of David Watkins, a 72-year-old retired lecturer from Edinburgh. For years, he lived with Fuchs Dystrophy, a condition that caused blurred and light-sensitive vision, forcing him to wear dark glasses constantly and spend much of his time in darkness.
Undergoing the transplant in August, Watkins experienced a miraculous improvement within weeks. He can now clearly see colors, dust motes in the air, and enjoy nature, such as watching Red Kites with his wife on daily walks. This regained vision has profoundly impacted his quality of life.
Consultant ophthalmic surgeon Dr. Naing Latt Tint highlighted the transformative power of organ and tissue donation, emphasizing the selflessness of donors. Watkins stated he remains eternally grateful for the generosity that has given him back his sight.
