Corby Moms Demand Answers on Toxic Waste Scandal's Health Impacts

As of October 2025, two mothers from Corby, Tracey Taylor and Maggie Mahon, are continuing their decades-long fight for answers and justice regarding the toxic waste scandal that has plagued their community. The pair, who were depicted in the recent Netflix drama, believe the clearing of Corby's steelworks in the 1980s, where toxic waste was transported through the town in uncovered lorries, caused birth defects and childhood cancers in the area.

The families have been pressing the North Northamptonshire Council to reveal a list of sites where the waste was buried, but the council has refused, citing public interest concerns. However, the council says it is committed to addressing the residents' concerns. Solicitor Des Collins, who represented the families in a High Court case 16 years ago, is currently assisting 30 to 40 families with the ongoing issues.

The mothers are now calling for more whistleblowers to come forward and provide information about the undisclosed toxic waste burial sites. They believe there are "other clusters" of health issues, including childhood cancers, happening in the area currently. The families are demanding a public inquiry and a full apology from the authorities, as they continue their fight for justice and answers.
