- Hundreds of children were immunized on the first day of the campaign.
- MSF warns immunization gaps fuel disease transmission in vulnerable areas.

A large-scale measles vaccination campaign has been initiated in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, targeting 260,000 children. The effort, spearheaded by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), commenced on Tuesday.
On its first day, hundreds of young children received immunizations. The vaccinations are being administered at hospitals and health centers throughout Goma, a major city in the region. This mass inoculation drive is crucial for curbing the spread of the highly contagious disease.
MSF's medical team leader, Monique Diarra, has underscored the persistent challenge of immunization gaps. These gaps, she explained, continue to facilitate measles transmission within vulnerable communities, emphasizing the critical need for such extensive vaccination programs.
