Chester, who is just one year old, was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) shortly after birth, a rare genetic condition that significantly impacts muscle strength.
His mother, Kasey, expressed profound gratitude, highlighting the urgent need for the brace. She revealed that accessing one through the NHS could take up to two years, a delay deemed unacceptable given the worsening spinal curve. The fundraising, spurred by Kasey's distress over the potential delay, has provided a crucial lifeline.
Tattoo artist Matty Gardner organized a seven-hour pop-up event at his Kenilworth shop, contributing £1,000 to Chester's cause. Gardner, known for his charitable work, emphasized the importance of community support for those in need.
Beyond the spinal brace, which costs approximately £4,000, any surplus funds will be allocated to a specialized pushchair. This pushchair is essential for Chester's support, as he can currently only hold his head up for short periods.
