An Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation camp is scheduled for June 28, 2026, across Coimbatore district. The government aims for complete polio eradication with this initiative, targeting approximately 2.97 lakh children below the age of five years. This effort builds upon previous campaigns that successfully administered polio drops to over 3.01 lakh children.
To ensure broad reach, the district has established a network of 1,615 pulse polio booths, with 1,124 in rural areas and 491 in urban centers. Additionally, 32 special booths and 22 mobile teams will operate at key public locations like bus stands and railway stations. This strategic deployment aims to capture children who might otherwise be missed.
The Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) stock is readily available at all Primary Health Centres. The immunisation drive will involve a massive workforce of 6,345 personnel, including public health officials, Anganwadi workers, and volunteers from various organizations. Over 100 vehicles are mobilized to support this extensive operation.
District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar has emphasized the safety and quality of the WHO-approved vaccine. He strongly appeals to parents to ensure all children under five receive polio drops on June 28, regardless of their prior immunisation history, to contribute to the ongoing polio eradication efforts.
