In a poignant display of generosity, a family in Coimbatore has donated the organs of their 39-year-old son, Karthik, following his declaration of brain death. Karthik had been admitted to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) on Avinashi Road after sustaining injuries in an accident near Chinniyampalayam on the night of August 17, 2026. Despite medical efforts, he did not recover and was pronounced brain-dead on Saturday, August 21, 2026.
His parents, Arunachalam and Rajalakshmi, along with his sister Jagatheswari, bravely consented to organ donation. Doctors at KMCH carefully harvested Karthik's liver, kidneys, eyes, skin, and bone, adhering to Tamil Nadu Transplant Authority regulations. The life-saving organs were then transplanted, with the liver and kidneys given to recipients at KMCH, and the eyes, skin, and bone utilized by another private hospital in the city.
Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami, Chairman of KMCH, expressed profound gratitude to the family for their decision. He emphasized that such altruistic gestures are crucial in raising public awareness and encouraging more people to consider organ donation, offering hope and new life to others.
