Thousands of Kids Miss Crucial Flu Vaccines

Last winter, a significant number of children in Devon, Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly missed out on crucial flu vaccinations. Data reveals that over 96,000 children, aged between four and sixteen, did not receive the necessary protection against the flu virus.

The vaccination rates showed considerable variation across the region. In Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, just over half of the eligible children received the flu vaccine. Specific figures indicate that 53.1% were vaccinated in Torbay, 56% in Plymouth, and 60.4% in Devon.

Health officials have voiced concerns about the declining vaccination rates, especially among older pupils. Primary and secondary school-aged children are considered significant spreaders of the virus. Experts stress the urgent need to reverse this trend to protect both individual children and the wider community from influenza.
