- Anesthesiologist allegedly lacked training for pediatric patients.

A 14-month-old boy has suffered severe, irreversible brain damage following a routine ear surgery at Cloudnine Hospital, Nagarabhavi, on July 26, 2026. The toddler experienced cardiac arrest and subsequent brain injury due to a lack of oxygen during the procedure.
An expert medical panel identified critical lapses in anesthesia administration, stating the anesthesiologist was not well-trained for young children. The attempt to intubate the child improperly led to hypoxia, bradycardia, and cardiac arrest, with brain hypoxia persisting for 15-20 minutes.
The child, though hemodynamically stable, exhibits profound neurological deficits, including unresponsiveness, blindness, and decerebrate posturing. Following findings of prima facie medical negligence, the Bengaluru Urban District Health Officer referred the case to the Karnataka Medical Council for disciplinary proceedings on October 12, 2026.
