A study conducted at Rajasthan's Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital reveals that increased screen time among children aged 10 to 16 is significantly impacting their behavior. The research found that 72% of children spend three to six hours daily on mobile phones.
These usage patterns correlate with several issues: 60% of children report difficulties concentrating on studies, while 48% exhibit irritability and aggression. Furthermore, 41% experience sleep disturbances due to late-night mobile usage, and 35% show reduced communication with family members.
Experts warn that excessive mobile use can lead to dependency, restlessness, and a pattern of lying about usage. This behavior can escalate into psychological and behavioral dependence, akin to addiction, with symptoms of anxiety and depression observed in some cases.
To mitigate these effects, psychologists emphasize the crucial role of parents in regulating screen time. Establishing device limits, creating phone-free routines like during meals, and encouraging physical activities, reading, and creative pursuits are vital. Spending quality family time also plays a key role in fostering positive behavior.
