A tragic incident unfolded in Andhra Pradesh's Polavaram district where a seven-year-old girl died after consuming anti-malaria chloroquine tablets. Fifty-two other villagers who took the medication also fell ill and are receiving medical attention.
Officials confirmed that 71 people in Gollaguppa village were administered the tablets. Following the adverse reactions, 29 were admitted to a hospital in Telangana and 24 to a local health center. The condition of the currently treated patients is stable.
In response, the district administration has deployed specialist medical teams, including pediatricians, and established a medical camp. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has ordered an investigation and directed officials to provide the best possible treatment to those affected. Several teams from government hospitals have reached the village to assist.
