Summary
- A one-and-a-half-year-old boy died after anesthesia for a lip injury.
- Parents allege medical negligence and demand an expedited investigation.
- A medical panel found negligence, and the case is now under state review.

A one-and-a-half-year-old boy, Devansh Shouria, passed away on Saturday after receiving anesthesia for a lip injury at a private hospital in Kannur. The child had sustained the injury while playing on July 5 and was brought to a hospital in Payyannur for suturing.
His parents allege that he became unconscious after anesthesia and was subsequently transferred to another hospital in Kannur, where he later died. Police have registered a case against the anaesthetist, Dr. Anjali Poduval, based on the family's complaint.
The father stated that a district medical panel found negligence by three of its five members, though one dissented and another remained neutral. The case report has now been forwarded to a state-level panel for further action.
The family has met with the Home Minister, requesting a Special Investigation Team and an expedited probe. They also wish for two other treating doctors to be named as accused. The hospital denied negligence, stating the child suffered a cardiac arrest post-anesthesia.
