An outbreak of chikungunya has been confirmed in Nowshera district, Pakistan, with health officials classifying it as a localized transmission. Between August 31 and September 8, 15 out of 28 suspected cases tested positive for the virus, resulting in a 53.6% positivity rate. The affected age range for suspected cases was five to 76 years, with a notable concentration of positive cases among individuals aged 30 or younger.
One additional case was reported in Malakand. The health department is emphasizing immediate household vector control and contact tracing activities in affected neighborhoods. Public awareness campaigns are also underway to encourage prevention of mosquito bites. This includes using repellents, wearing protective clothing, and utilizing mosquito nets, especially during daytime hours when Aedes mosquitoes are most active.
