Knitting for Hope: Chennai Women Craft Prosthetics
17 Oct
Summary
- Volunteers knit cotton breast prosthetics for mastectomy patients.
- Children with cancer receive knitted cotton caps.
- Awareness campaigns are held at public events and on Chennai Metro.

A dedicated group of women in Chennai, part of Saaisha India, are crafting "knockers"—free knitted and crocheted cotton breast prosthetics for mastectomy patients. They also create cotton caps for pediatric cancer patients. These handmade items are distributed nationwide to individuals and hospitals.
In Tamil Nadu, over 60 volunteers contribute, knitting from their homes and meeting biannually for 'filling' sessions. They actively engage the community through public events, raising awareness about breast cancer and early detection. This October, coinciding with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they are intensifying their campaign with activities planned across Chennai, including a ride on the Chennai Metro.
