In Charlotte, a new medical practice, Femwell Gynecology and Wellness, is pioneering a comprehensive approach to women's health. Founded by Doctors Ebony Parson and Tiffany Bates, the practice was established in 2025 to address perceived shortcomings in existing healthcare systems.
Femwell focuses on the "whole woman," extending beyond traditional gynecological services to include mental health support, weight management, and counseling for issues like perimenopause and postpartum care. The founders, noting that less than 6% of U.S. doctors are Black and less than 3% are Black women, aim to leverage their experiences as members of a marginalized community to better serve all women.
A critical objective for Femwell is to combat the disproportionately high maternal mortality rates among Black women. While national rates declined in 2023, Black mothers still face triple the risk. Doctors Parson and Bates believe that building relationships and improving women's health prior to pregnancy can significantly enhance birth outcomes.
