Vision Lost: Hospital Sealed Amid Surgery Infection Scandal
29 Apr
Summary
- Hospital registration suspended due to infection allegations.
- At least three patients suffered severe vision loss post-surgery.
- Hospital operated without authorized ophthalmology beds.

Health authorities in Chandrapur district have suspended the registration of Christanand Hospital in Bramhapuri, sealing its operation theatre and inpatient department. This action follows allegations that post-cataract surgery infections led to severe vision loss in at least three patients.
The decision, made by civil surgeon Dr. Mahadev Chinchole on Monday, came after a preliminary inquiry indicated multiple violations of the Bombay Nursing Home Act, 1949, and serious lapses in ophthalmic care standards.
