Govt Aids Hearing Impaired in UT Over 2 Years

In the Union territory, 330 hearing aids have been distributed and two cochlear implant surgeries have been performed over the last two years. These efforts are part of the Assistance to Persons with Disabilities for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) Scheme. The scheme requires beneficiaries to possess a Unique Disability ID card and a certificate indicating at least 40% disability.

Financial assistance is available, with full subsidies for those earning up to ₹22,500 monthly and 50% for incomes between ₹22,501 and ₹30,000. The government provides up to ₹7 lakh for cochlear implants for young children and up to ₹6 lakh for older children. Hearing aids and other assistive devices costing up to ₹15,000 are also covered, distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Grievances related to accessibility and assistive devices are managed through various platforms, including the Sugamya Bharat App and helpline services. Facilitation centres and technical support are available. All devices under the ADIP Scheme must have certification and a minimum one-year warranty, ensuring quality and local repair services.
