Dr. Suman Singh, Director of Health Services, has been granted a one-year extension, signaling a continued focus on modernizing Chandigarh's healthcare facilities. Her mandate includes upgrading hospitals for better patient care and improving service convenience. Since taking charge in October 2021, Dr. Singh has spearheaded efforts to modernize the Government Multispeciality Hospital (GMSH-16), Civil Hospitals, and local dispensaries.
Significant progress has been made with the recent inauguration of a 32-bedded Advanced Paediatrics Centre at GMSH-16, offering specialized services and a hybrid ICU. Renovations to antenatal and postnatal wards now provide air-conditioned comfort. Additionally, a new patient waiting area has been established through CSR initiatives, and ongoing renovations are planned for private rooms, gynaecology wards, and the emergency area.
The health department is also embracing technology with the ongoing digitization of GMSH-16, which will enable digital report delivery and health record management. Dispensaries have transitioned to paperless operations, with plans for new labs. Dr. Singh aims to reduce the gap between private and government healthcare by recruiting more medical professionals.
