Chandigarh marked the 12th International Day of Yoga with a significant state-level event on Sunday, presided over by Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. Speaking at Sector 17, Kataria urged attendees to adopt yoga not merely as physical activity but as a holistic lifestyle to maintain a healthy body, calm mind, and balanced life. This local observance coincided with national celebrations, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the country from Kolkata, highlighting the theme 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing' and yoga's role as a unifying global movement for lifelong energy.
The administration introduced the 'Yoga 365' campaign, aiming to embed yoga practice into the daily lives of residents throughout the year, moving beyond a single annual observance. Efforts are also underway to enhance Ayush-based healthcare through integrated facilities and mobile clinics. The ceremony honored young national and international yoga achievers, Anushka Sharma, Abhay Mishra, and Dev, alongside 14 local institutions, voluntary groups, trainers, and the Ayush department for their contributions to promoting yoga in Chandigarh.
