SS Narayana Superspeciality Centre in Davanagere has achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully conducting Central Karnataka's first modified Bentall procedure. This advanced open-heart surgery was performed on a 43-year-old patient experiencing severe chest pain.
Doctors identified a life-threatening condition: a dangerously enlarged aortic root that was close to rupturing. The surgical team, led by cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dr. Gautham A, replaced the diseased aortic valve, aortic root, and ascending aorta with a synthetic graft. A critical aspect of the procedure involved reimplanting the coronary buttons to maintain blood flow to the heart.
The patient recovered well following the high-risk surgery, with follow-up imaging confirming normal heart function and proper functioning of the implanted valve. This achievement marks a breakthrough for healthcare in Central Karnataka, reducing the need for patients to travel to larger cities for critical cardiac treatment.
