FDA suspends CCI canteen license over hygiene lapses
29 Jul
Summary
- Cockroaches and expired food found during inspection.
- CCI canteen failed to maintain separate veg and non-veg sections.
- License suspension follows a special enforcement drive.

The food business license for the Cricket Club of India's (CCI) canteen has been suspended by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This decisive action was taken following an inspection that revealed significant food safety and hygiene violations.
Inspectors reported finding cockroaches and their skeletons, alongside expired food products. A critical lapse identified was the lack of separate food preparation sections for vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, increasing the risk of cross-contamination.
The suspension comes after a broader enforcement drive targeting club canteens across Greater Mumbai. FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe defended the decision, stating it was based on gross violations and not minor issues or selective enforcement.
