Cassandra Thorburn, 54, has publicly shared her diagnosis of a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. The journalist and former reality television personality revealed her health status on Instagram, accompanying the announcement with a photo of her newly shaved head. She stated her intention to control aspects of her treatment and diagnosis disclosure, choosing not to hide her experience.

Thorburn expressed gratitude towards the Australian health system, specifically NSW Breast Screen, for identifying her 'triple negative occult breast cancer.' This diagnosis signifies cancer cells originating from the breast, even without a detectable tumor. The cancer is 'triple-negative,' meaning it lacks specific receptors, precluding certain targeted therapies.

In her social media post, Thorburn conveyed a message of optimism and resilience, stating there was no room for self-pity. She highlighted the prevalence of breast cancer, noting that one in seven women in New South Wales are affected. She strongly encouraged others to promptly attend their mammogram appointments.
