Man Thanks NHS After Life-Saving Cardiac Arrest Rescue

Ken Christy has shared his profound gratitude towards the NHS ambulance teams responsible for saving his life after a sudden cardiac arrest. The incident occurred on March 9, 2025, at his home in South Ockendon, Essex, as he was looking after his six-month-old daughter. After experiencing what he initially thought was heartburn, Christy collapsed, prompting his partner to call emergency services.

Paramedics arrived within three minutes and were joined by additional crews and the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. They worked on the 63-year-old for 30 minutes until his heart restarted. Following critical care at the scene, he was airlifted to Basildon University Hospital, where a blocked valve was identified as the cause of his cardiac arrest.

A year after the harrowing event, Christy, accompanied by his partner and daughters, met the medical teams at Basildon ambulance station. He expressed how emotional the reunion was, filling in the blanks of the event he does not remember. Christy, who has been unable to return to work as a butcher, now has an implantable cardioverter defibrillator fitted to aid his recovery. Officials from the East of England Ambulance Service described the meeting as a powerful reminder of their daily impact.
