A baby boy named Oliver was unexpectedly born in the car park of Hinchingbrooke Hospital, a memorable event for parents Katie Good and James Gingell. Healthcare assistant Sam Craigie and interim deputy divisional nursing director Ana Jardim happened to be nearby and immediately assisted when they heard screams.
The unexpected delivery occurred on a cold Saturday morning in early April, just before 02:00 BST. Katie described the moment as shocking, remembering reassuring voices as Oliver arrived. James recounted the swiftness of the event, with Sam providing immediate help and using his coat to wrap the newborn.
The family, who also have a six-year-old son, were later reunited with Sam and Ana at the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust Outstanding Achievement Awards. The parents had nominated the two staff members in the Health Heroes category. This reunion allowed them to express their profound gratitude for the critical assistance and calm provided during the chaotic car park birth.
