Brother's Plea Saves Twin From Early Cancer Diagnosis
15 Feb
Summary
- Cancer patient's insistence led to his twin brother's early diagnosis.
- The twin had early-stage prostate cancer, which was still operable.
- Patient is fundraising for a pioneering treatment to extend his life.

Andy Gissing, diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer in 2020 which had spread to his bones, lungs, and soft tissue, successfully persuaded his twin brother to undergo a PSA test.
This insistence led to his brother's diagnosis with early-stage prostate cancer in 2025, which was still operable, potentially saving his life. Gissing described telling his own children and wife about his diagnosis as the hardest day of his life.
He is now seeking to raise £80,000 for private lutetium-177 therapy, a treatment that delivers radiation directly to tumors. This treatment has shown positive trial results and could potentially grant him an additional 18 months of life.
Gissing is currently undergoing his third and final round of chemotherapy, which has been keeping his cancer at bay. He expressed deep gratitude for the over £53,000 raised so far by his colleagues.
