Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in Visakhapatnam recently commemorated its 12th Foundation Day, signifying over a decade of vital cancer care in Eastern India. The hospital introduced "PRERANA - Inspiring Hope, Celebrating Life," a new monthly support group aimed at providing comprehensive psychosocial support for patients, survivors, and their caregivers. This initiative fosters shared experiences and emotional well-being.
Director Umesh Mahantshetty highlighted that cancer care must extend beyond clinical treatment to include rehabilitation and survivorship. The hospital is poised for substantial infrastructural advancements through an NTPC CSR project. These upgrades will feature a 3 MW solar power plant and a state-of-the-art robotic surgery facility, significantly enhancing the hospital's diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
Further underscoring its commitment to advancing cancer treatment, the hospital hosted its 4th Annual Cancer Congress. This event attracted approximately 130 delegates from Andhra Pradesh and surrounding states. The congress concentrated on recent breakthroughs in thoracic and gastrointestinal malignancies, which account for a significant portion of adult cancer cases, and featured expert discussions on cutting-edge technologies like Magnetic Resonance-guided Radiotherapy and immunotherapy.
