Authorities have issued a stern warning to parents regarding Squeezy Dumplings, a children's squishy toy found to contain benzene, a known carcinogen. Over 1,000 counterfeit toys were seized from shops in Hull, sparking concern due to the presence of this harmful chemical.
Benzene can cause significant irritation to the skin, eyes, nose, and throat. Local councilor Ted Dolman advised vigilance, urging parents to inspect toys for counterfeit packaging and dispose of any suspicious items immediately. He stressed that while some unsafe toys might appear legitimate, purchasing from reputable retailers is the safest approach.
The government's Office for Product Safety and Standards has since initiated a nationwide recall for these toys. Hull's Trading Standards officers have actively seized and destroyed the hazardous counterfeit products following the recall, aiming to protect children from potential health risks.
