Cama Hospital's Fertility Clinic Sees Huge Patient Surge
25 Sep
Summary
- Fertility treatment registrations at Cama Hospital more than doubled in 2026.
- Only 26 women underwent IVF since December 2025, but 337 had IUI.
- Government facility offers affordable fertility treatment, costing under a lakh for IVF cycles.
Mumbai's Cama and Albless Hospital, a historic women's hospital, has observed a dramatic increase in patients seeking fertility treatments. Registrations at its government-run Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) clinic surged from 1,492 in 2024 to 3,286 by September 11, 2026. This represents more than a doubling of cases in just over eight months of 2026.
Despite the high number of consultations, actual In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedures remain limited. Since receiving its IVF license in December 2025, the clinic has performed 26 IVF procedures. However, it has successfully facilitated 337 Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) treatments and ovulation inductions, alongside egg and sperm banking services.
The ART clinic's accessibility is a key factor, especially for economically weaker sections. Compared to private facilities where IVF can cost ₹6-8 lakh for three cycles, Cama Hospital charges approximately ₹30,000-40,000 per cycle, making comprehensive fertility care significantly more affordable. This government initiative aims to bridge the gap for those who would otherwise struggle to afford treatment.
