Rosedale Hospice in northwest Calgary is marking a significant milestone, celebrating 30 years of dedicated end-of-life care. Since welcoming its first patient in 1996, this seven-bed residential facility, operated by Hospice Calgary, has provided comfort, dignity, and compassion to nearly 2,700 individuals and their families.
The hospice offers specialized care for adults with cancer who can no longer be cared for at home or do not require hospitalization. Executive Director Robyn Romano expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them by families during such a critical life stage.
Sheri Allen, Hospice Calgary board chair, highlighted the contributions of both professionals and volunteers. Their collective efforts have fostered an environment of support and reassurance. Initially funded solely by community donations for its first seven years, Rosedale Hospice began receiving government funding in 2003.
Despite government support, community donations and partnerships remain crucial, currently accounting for 48% of the hospice's operational budget. Those wishing to learn more or contribute can visit the Hospice Calgary website.
