During the California International Marathon, a runner in her thirties experienced sudden cardiac arrest, collapsing midway through the race in Carmichael. On-site medical personnel swiftly intervened, administering CPR and utilizing an automated external defibrillator (AED) to successfully restore her pulse.
Thanks to the immediate response from bystanders and emergency medical services, the runner regained a pulse and was able to breathe independently. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition, alert and recovering.
Officials credited the positive outcome to the rapid actions of those present, the efficiency of dispatchers and command staff, and the extensive safety planning by multiple agencies involved in the marathon.
