British Dad Fights For Life in Thai Coma

A 35-year-old British father, Fraser Derbyshire, is in a critical condition in a Bangkok hospital after suddenly collapsing in his hotel room on Thursday, July 9. He was found unresponsive and subsequently diagnosed with sepsis, which has caused a severe infection in one of his heart valves. Doctors believe the infection may have spread from a minor injury, such as a cut or insect bite, to his brain.

Fraser, from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, had recently arrived in Thailand for a holiday when the incident occurred. He is currently in a coma and on a ventilator. His family has revealed that he does not have medical insurance, leaving them to face significant medical costs. He urgently requires open-heart surgery, estimated to cost £11,000, in addition to other extensive treatment expenses.

His cousin, Leanne Derbyshire, has launched an online fundraiser to help cover the mounting medical bills. While over £6,000 has been donated, the family fears the total cost will be much higher as his treatment continues. Fraser's parents have flown to Thailand to be by his side, reporting a small positive sign as he moved his eyes slightly when they spoke to him.
