13 Sep
Summary
- BRICS to establish mental health training hubs coordinated by NIMHANS.
- Member states will jointly govern the network for balanced decision-making.
- Focus on addressing mental health consequences of crises and promoting healthy lifestyles.

During the 18th BRICS Summit, the New Delhi Declaration was adopted, supporting the creation of a network of mental health training hubs. The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru will serve as the coordinating center for this network.
This network is envisioned as a platform for collaborative research, policy discussions, and exchanging best practices to integrate mental well-being into primary healthcare across BRICS countries. A designated group of representatives from each member state will govern the network, ensuring shared accountability.
The declaration also highlights the importance of mental health interventions during crises, particularly for vulnerable populations like children and adolescents. It further endorses initiatives for healthy lifestyles, including a roadmap for joint actions from 2026 to 2029.
Additionally, the BRICS nations acknowledged the growing relevance of traditional and integrative medicine (TCIM). An expert working group on TCIM will be established under the BRICS Health Track to coordinate research on medicinal plants and ensure the quality and efficacy of these practices.
