Pregnant Mom's Symptoms Dismissed, Reveals Brain Tumor
20 Feb
Summary
- Mother's hearing loss and facial numbness were initially misdiagnosed as tinnitus.
- A brain tumor diagnosis came after seeking a second medical opinion.
- She underwent surgery and radiotherapy for a benign, slow-growing tumor.

In 2012, Stephanie Hilliard began experiencing hearing loss and facial numbness, symptoms initially attributed to tinnitus. By 2013, she was pregnant with her daughter, Lilly, and her condition worsened, prompting further investigation.
An MRI scan, conducted while she was heavily pregnant, revealed a slow-growing meningioma. Following the birth of Lilly in July 2013, Ms. Hilliard underwent surgery in March 2014 to remove part of the tumor, facing a challenging recovery.
In 2017, a routine scan showed the tumor had regrown, leading doctors to recommend radiotherapy instead of further surgery. Ms. Hilliard now participates in fundraising for brain tumor research.
