26 Jul
Summary
- Over 3,000 gallons of coffee concentrate recalled due to botulism risk.
- Concentrate distributed in New York and New Jersey had specific date codes.
- Botulism symptoms can be deadly, affecting breathing and muscle function.

A significant recall involving over 3,000 gallons of cold brew coffee concentrate has been issued due to the potential presence of botulism-causing toxins. Brooklyn Roasting Company voluntarily recalled its Pasteurized Cold Brew Concentrate, distributed in 2.5-gallon bags within New York and New Jersey. The affected units have specific distribution codes and best-by dates ranging from early June to early September 2026.
The recall notice highlights that improper storage at ambient temperatures could foster the growth of Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria responsible for botulism. This potent neurotoxin can cause severe health consequences, including muscle weakness affecting breathing, which can be fatal. The FDA classified this as a Class II recall, indicating potential for temporary or medically reversible health effects.
Botulism symptoms, which can appear within hours of consuming contaminated food, include difficulties with swallowing, speaking, and breathing. While antitoxins can be administered, they cannot reverse existing damage. Recovery may be prolonged, requiring extensive rehabilitation. Consumers possessing the recalled product are advised to dispose of it or return it to the point of purchase.
