Boots Launches In-Store Weight-Loss Jab Consultations
13 Feb
Summary
- Boots is piloting in-store consultations for weight-loss drugs.
- The scheme aims to increase convenience for patients seeking jabs.
- New safety measures address concerns about fake online prescriptions.

A new pilot program initiated this week by Boots allows customers to receive prescriptions for weight-loss medications, including Wegovy and Mounjaro, through in-store consultations at 17 locations nationwide. This service offers a more convenient, face-to-face alternative to previous online-only consultations.
Patients will consult with a healthcare professional in a private setting, where their medical history will be assessed and measurements taken to determine eligibility. This in-person approach is intended to improve convenience and mitigate safety issues observed with some online pharmacies, such as patients misrepresenting their health status.
Weight-loss injections, known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, are prescription-only. While the NHS has specific BMI requirements, private providers offer them to individuals with a BMI over 30. Boots has been offering Wegovy for three years and also provides Mounjaro, with prices starting at £99.97 for Wegovy and £176.97 for Mounjaro.
This new service complements Boots' existing Online Doctor offering, catering to diverse patient preferences for healthcare access. The program supports individuals affected by obesity, providing not only medication but also guidance on lifestyle and behavioral changes.
