- Three servings daily linked to sustained psychological wellbeing.
- Dietary changes can support long-term mental wellbeing.

Consuming a diet abundant in flavonoids may lead to increased happiness and optimism, according to new research. Flavonoids are natural compounds found in foods such as berries, apples, citrus fruits, tea, dark chocolate, and red wine. A comprehensive study analyzing over 18 years of data revealed that women who consumed approximately three servings daily of flavonoid-rich foods experienced higher levels of sustained happiness and optimism.
Specific flavonoid-rich foods, including berries, apples, and citrus fruits, were linked to a 3-16% greater likelihood of maintaining positive psychological wellbeing. The findings suggest that simple dietary modifications can positively impact long-term mental wellness. Furthermore, the research indicated a reciprocal relationship, where individuals with higher wellbeing were more inclined to maintain a flavonoid-rich diet.
