Blood Cancer Patient Finds Hope in Free Counselling
24 Sep
Summary
- A woman with blood cancer found support through free counseling.
- The service helped her and her family cope with difficult emotions.
- She was diagnosed in late summer 2023 after feeling unwell.
A woman living with blood cancer shared how a complimentary counseling service significantly aided her and her family in navigating the emotional challenges of her diagnosis. Emma Tom, who received her blood cancer diagnosis three years ago, began attending sessions with Linc, a dedicated blood cancer charity. This crucial support allowed her to confront and process difficult emotions, describing it as bringing "dark feelings out into the light."
Tom's journey to diagnosis began after a prolonged period of experiencing extreme tiredness, breathlessness, and general achiness. Despite initial blood tests appearing normal, a specific test result at the end of the summer holidays in 2023 prompted her general practitioner to order a bone marrow biopsy and a blood transfusion.
Linc, previously operating within Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital, has now extended its services into the community. This expansion promises immediate access to support, ensuring no wait times for those in need, provided sufficient community backing is received.
