Blind Patient Denied Dental Care Over Online Booking
17 Aug
Summary
- Blind woman unable to book emergency dental appointment by phone.
- She was told to book appointments online despite visual impairment.
- Company apologized and stated urgent appointments can be booked by phone.

A 66-year-old woman registered as blind faced significant difficulties when attempting to secure an emergency dental appointment due to accessibility issues. Gail Drake, from Bridlington, East Yorkshire, called her local Mydentist practice to report toothache.
Despite explaining her visual impairment, which affects her ability to use online booking systems with small text and lack of zoom functionality, she was allegedly told repeatedly that appointments could only be made online. She was even advised to complain via letter or email, further compounding her distress.
Following the incident, a spokesperson for the dental company issued an apology. They confirmed that steps have been taken to rectify the situation and reiterated that patients can, in fact, book urgent dental appointments over the telephone. Ms. Drake expressed her deep upset and frustration at the treatment she received.
