Bihar Launches Child Disability Screening!
25 Apr
Summary
- New SOPs for disability screening and early identification launched.
- A dedicated WhatsApp community platform aims to boost parental engagement.
- Initiatives support an inclusive development model for early childhood.

The Directorate of ICDS in Bihar has introduced new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for disability screening and early identification of developmental delays. This initiative, supported by Unicef, aims to bolster early childhood development and create a more inclusive model of progress in the state.
A dedicated WhatsApp community platform, 'ICDS: Hamare Bacche, Hamara Parivar,' has also been launched to improve parental awareness and engagement. These efforts are crucial as a significant portion of brain development occurs before the age of six, yet many developmental delays remain undiagnosed until school entry.
These new guidelines and the WhatsApp platform will strengthen grassroots-level screening and referral mechanisms. They emphasize the convergence of nutrition, health, and education sectors, positioning Anganwadi centers as key hubs for early learning and empowerment. Bihar, with its substantial young population, views investment in early childhood as a strategic priority for human capital development.
