Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur, recently enhanced its disaster preparedness with the launch of the BHISHM Cube. This portable, rapidly deployable emergency medical facility is a product of the Indian government's Project Aarogya Maitri.
The BHISHM Cube functions as a modular field hospital, designed for swift deployment during humanitarian crises, mass casualty incidents, and natural disasters. Once operational, it can provide emergency medical care to approximately 200 individuals, substantially increasing the institution's capacity to handle surges in patient numbers.
Equipped with advanced trauma care amenities, including defibrillators, ultrasound equipment, and surgical stations, the Cube is also compact and drone-transportable. This design ensures rapid deployment even in difficult-to-reach areas. India has previously utilized the BHISHM Cube in humanitarian efforts, such as providing medical aid to Venezuela following earthquakes.
