26 Feb
Summary
- Actress cried after first post-surgery dressing removal.
- She was diagnosed with breast cancer after moving to Dublin.
- A hematoma requires further hospital treatment.

Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard, 68, shared an emotional update following her breast cancer surgery. She revealed she cried "like a baby" after her surgical dressings were removed for the first time on a recent Wednesday. Callard was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after moving to Dublin to begin a new job. She recounted her initial fear at the breast clinic, finding strength in observing other women, but later struggled to look at her post-surgery body. This emotional toll led to significant crying once she left the hospital and reunited with her husband, Jon McEwan.
During the dressing change, a hematoma, a collection of blood outside blood vessels, was discovered under her arm. While the consultant aims to avoid further surgery, Callard is scheduled for a hospital visit next week for treatment on this condition. Despite her initial distress, Callard emphasized that she did eventually confront her reflection and share her experience with her husband, offering encouragement to others facing similar challenges.
Callard had previously announced her diagnosis and surgery earlier this month. The surgery involved removing two lymph nodes as a precaution. She is also slated to undergo radiotherapy at home in Norfolk. The actress expressed gratitude for the medical staff at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, describing herself as sore and exhausted but "doing okay," though she admitted to concerns about her attractiveness post-surgery.
