Bengaluru Event Canceled After Food Safety Inquiry
29 Aug
Summary
- Food safety probe led to cancellation of the planned 'Peptide Party'.
- Organizers sought time to submit documents regarding peptide products.
- FSDA questioned product identity, composition, and regulatory status.

A planned 'Peptide Party' in Bengaluru, scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled. The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) initiated an inquiry into the peptide products intended for promotion at the event. Organizers, Upsurge Labs LLP, informed the FSDA of the cancellation and requested additional time to submit required documentation.
The FSDA had issued a notice following social media publicity, questioning the identity, composition, source, and regulatory status of the products. Specifically, the department sought clarification on whether the products qualified as 'drugs' and requested evidence for claims related to weight management and muscle growth. Information regarding food supplement or nutraceutical classifications and FSSAI licenses was also requested.
Health Minister U.T. Khader noted the cancellation followed significant social media criticism. The FSDA's action focused on verifying the regulatory status and proposed use of the products. Peptides are amino acid chains with various bodily functions, some having established medical uses while others are still under investigation for wellness purposes and may lack regulatory approval.
